Hey sleepyhead, you're finally up!
Where am I?
This is sudo nano's web space. It is hosted in Amsterdam on an old laptop, but it wouldn't be right saying you are in that laptop right now, would it? You stumbled in a couple hours ago, mumbling something about needing a place to rest. You let yourself descend on the sofa and fell asleep immediately. The internet must've got to you pretty badly, huh?
Yeah, compared to the internet out there, this is some kind of oasis. . . why are you on that ladder?
I'm still fixing up the last little bits here and there. A web space - like a real space - doesn't arrive out of nowhere. Building and maintaining it costs a lot of effort.
And what exactly is this web space for?
sudo nano is a web magazine interested in writing and alternative digital futures. The web space will be the place where we will publish writing, but also from where we try to organise physical activities.
Writing and alternative digital futures. . . Like science fiction you mean?
Well, yes, also. There's lots of ways through which our digital infrastructure could become more visible in our writing. Of course, essays and and guides, but also through poetry that explores the experience and poetics of digital systems. But beside content, writing could also make full use of the affordances of digital systems, going full interactive, multimedial - the full potential of digital systems for literature hasn't been fully explored.
Alright, so let's say i have ideas about this, how do i submit a piece a text?
We work with open calls. To know when they're going up, keep an eye on the bulletin board or sign up for the newsletter.
In the meantime, feel free to browse around! There is a library with many interesting books that you can download or read right in your browser. Also check out the calendar for cool events around writing and technology going on in Amsterdam. For our own events and open calls, keep an eye on the website, or sign up for the newsletter!
